The rules
House rules
Draughts as it is played here: eight by eight, twelve a side, flying kings.
- Men move forwards one square, but take either way.
- Taking is your choice — leave a piece on offer and move somewhere else if you like, and take the short line over the long one.
- A jump you start is played to its end: keep taking while the same piece has another jump.
- A man that finishes on the far row is crowned. Jumping through it does not crown.
- A king slides any distance along a diagonal, takes at a distance, and lands anywhere beyond.
- Taken pieces stay on the board until the move ends — you cannot jump the same piece twice.
- Take everything, or leave your opponent with no move, and you win.
